PYPER AKA PEACHES

It is amazing what vetting after years of neglect and over breeding, in addition to love and tender care, can do for a little dog.  We introduced you to Peaches after we rescued her from a shelter where she had been taken after being abandoned in a rural county in South Dakota.  This tiny little dog needed major surgeries to repair the damage from years of breeding puppies for profit.  She came through all the surgeries and was then placed into foster care with Kari and her family.  Since then, Peaches has learned what it is like to be a pet, to be spoiled, to be part of a loving family, how to walk up and down stairs, how to eat from a bowl, all the things family pets should experience.

Peaches' foster family has renamed her Pyper, and we are now looking for a new, forever home for this little dog with the sweetest face and disposition.  If you would like to adopt this wonderful little girl, complete the adoption application which is accessed on the left side of this homepage.  Our original story of Pyper aka Peaches is at the bottom of this homepage.

"I am Pyper.  I am looking for a family that will love and care for me.  I am a very 'proud little girl' and will make a wonderful family pet."

Our Original Story About Peaches

This little Cocker girl is Peaches.  We believe she is a breeder dog who was abandoned in a rural area in South Dakota after she was ‘used up’ by the breeder.  A kind lady took Peaches in, and as a result, Pet Pals For Life is now committed to helping this sweet, gentle dog by placing her into our rescue program and sponsoring her major medical vetting.  Eventually Peaches will be placed for adoption through Pet Pals For Life.

This is what we know.  Peaches has been extremely over bred and apparently never vetted.  When we first took her into our rescue, her teeth were terribly swollen from infection, her ears matted with yeast infections, her back legs matted together from recent birth, the middle of her tummy caked with blood and debris from birth, her lower teats very swollen and hanging low, and her vulva extremely extended due to so much breeding.  All of her ribs and hind quarters were visible and she was close to the point of starvation.    Yet this little dog is so sweet and responds immediately to being held and love and attention.

Peaches was placed on antibiotics to reduce the swelling in her gums and treat the infection in her ears   We can only imagine the pain she has been suffering from neglect during her young life.  Her age is estimated to be around five years old.   Peaches responded well to the antibiotics and medications and has been able to eat without pain which has helped her gain weight.  The vet caring for Peaches determined surgery could be performed.

On April 3, Peaches had the scheduled surgeries.  Peaches has now been spayed, a full dental performed, two mammary tumors removed, her ears scraped to remove the yeast infection, and her middle section treated.  During the surgery, the vet determined  Peaches has had many C-sections to deliver several litters of puppies.  Peaches  has also been tested for heartworm and the test is negative.  She has been given all of her shots and will be started on heart guard and frontline after recovering from her surgery.

Peaches responded well to the surgeries and has now been placed into a foster home where she is recovering from years of neglect and breeding.  If you are interested in applying to adopt this sweet girl, please complete the adoption application which is accessed at the top of this homepage.

Peaches is fortunate. She was rescued in time and will become a family pet.  Thousands of other breeder dogs across the country are not so fortunate.  When their useful breeding days are over, they are either dumped like Peaches, left in shelters, or in the worst scenario, simply destroyed.   The staff members at Pet Pals For Life ask you to help stop the horrific pain and suffering puppy mill breeder dogs endure by becoming part of the movement to stop puppy mill and backyard breeding operations that produce puppies for profit.

If you are looking for a new family pet, visit the shelters or contact the rescue groups in your area.  If you adopt a puppy from a private source, make sure you meet the breeder parents to ensure they have been raised in a loving, family pet home.  Do not support the brokers that sell the puppies to pet shops without any history or knowledge of where the puppies came from.
