A Happy
Ending !!
DELLA
(on her way to Wyoming)

My
name is Della and I would like to tell you my story. My owners
didn't want me anymore. They told the people at the Humane
Society in Sioux Falls they didn't have time for me and that I did
not like men.
I
spent almost 3 weeks in that scary place and no one wanted me - my
time was running out. Then one day an angel (Susan) came by
and saw me. She knew I was scared but she knew a lot about
dogs and she knew I was full of possibilities!
Susan
checked with the Eskimo Dog Rescue Group and got the name of someone
looking for an Eskimo Dog. Susan checked the people out and
everyone, including their vet told her how great they were - but
they lived in Gillette, WY and I was in Sioux Falls, SD!
Susan
told some people in Sioux Falls my story and some other nice people
(Sandy & Jeff) said that I could come and stay with them and
they would help get me to WY.
After
the people in WY contacted the Humane Society and took care of my
adoption I was ready to leave. On Friday morning, 3/15/02
Sandy picked me up from the Humane Society - "Free at
Last". I was so full of energy from being in that cage
for so long that Sandy took me to her son's house were there was a
BIG fenced in yard so I could run and run and run.
Next
I had to get a bath because I smelled bad, really bad. So Dr.
Sommer's office said they would clean me right up! When they
were done I was BEAUTIFUL if I do say so myself. When Sandy
saw me she gave me a thousand kisses and hugs, and then we were off
to her house.
I
loved Sandy's house. There was room for me to play and I had a
nice bed and plenty of food and water and good treats. Sandy
even bought me a new leash and some toys! I had a lot of fun
playing with Sandy. I got to run a lot and I taught her the
right way to play fetch and she found out how smart I was. I
could sit, stay, lay down, and come. One of my favorite things
was when Sandy would call me to jump up on her lap - and she gave me
lots of love. Then Jeff came home from work and I barked a
couple of times. It's was my job to protect Sandy, but then
Jeff let me smell his hand and he petted me and I liked him right
away. Then I had to teach him how to play fetch and we even
rolled around on the floor together - it was SO much fun. And
remember those bad people said I didn't like men? Maybe it was
just the men that were mean to me - because I really loved Jeff.
Jeff
and Sandy played with me all night and I even had company to play
with. Jeff's friend Marc and his daughter Adrienne came to
play with me. I gave Adrienne a kiss and she laughed.
Marc was another nice man. There must be more nice men than
bad ones in the world! Then Sharon and her Shepherd Sonja came
to visit and Sonja and I played tag and Sharon gave me lots of
love. Boy what a great day!
When
it was finally bedtime Sandy & Jeff let me jump in bed with them
for just a little more playtime and lots of hugs before I had to go
to sleep. I just climbed in my nice bed after Sandy put me out
and no one heard a peep from me all night because I dreamed about my
day and tomorrow I will go to my forever home.
Before
I woke up on Saturday Sandy and Jeff talked about how much they
wished they could keep me because I was such a wonderful, loving dog
and so well behaved. But they had promised to take me to my
new family. Sandy did call my new family and offer to pay them
a lot of money for me but they said no because they wanted me so
badly.
After
breakfast Sandy and I headed to Murdo, SD to meet my new mom who was
driving from WY to get me. It was a fun trip but every now and
then I had to give Sandy a kiss because I caught her crying.
When we finally met my new mom Sandy told her all about me - how I
behaved on command, was housebroken, didn't bark and was so
loving. She also told her if things didn't work out to just
call her and she would come and get me. But it doesn't sound
like it will happen because my new family really wants me and when
they find out how great I am we will be a forever family. I
gave Sandy one last hug and kiss and my new mom Amanda promised to
email pictures and letters so everyone in Sioux Falls could keep in
touch.
I
do thank Susan and Sandy & Jeff for saving me and I will never
forget all the friends I have in Sioux Falls.
Love
& Kisses,
Della
