DIAMOND
A VERY BEAUTIFUL
SAMOYED

Hello.
My name is Diamond. I
first met Sonja Rae shortly after she had come home from the humane
society. She and her new mistress, Sharon, were walking past my house.
I, too, had been adopted at the shelter and could tell how
happy Sonja was and how much she loved her new mom. Bob was my
master, and although I knew how much he loved me, I was lonesome
much of the time because he worked out of town and was gone many
hours during the day. The
two boys next door walked me most of the time with their dog, Bliss,
who also came from the humane society, so I did get to sniff all the
wonderful smells around the neighborhood.
Sonja
was immediately drawn to my beautiful white coat.
She came up and pushed her nose right into my fur and wanted
to play. I was shy and
apprehensive and did curl my lips a bit because she was so eager.
Also, being tied to a short length of rope made it difficult
to interact with this strange new dog in the neighborhood.
Over
the next two years I saw Sonja many times, and she always wanted to
play, but my teeth were bothering me because a really bad infection
had started in my gums and I just didn’t feel like romping with
this white shepherd who had SO MUCH ENERGY.
So most of the time we just sniffed noses and Sonja went on
her way. One day I did
get to play with Sonja and her other friend, Eleesha, who you will
meet on the next page. It
was fun because Sonja’s yard has lots of grass and LOTS OF SMELLS!
Then
one day last August the two boys who walked me stopped by Sonja’s
house and told her that Bob had to move and was going to take me
back to the humane society. I
was just recovering from medication to correct the infection in my
teeth so this was a double shock.
I, of course, was very scared and did not want to go back
into a cage. Sharon
told me not to worry, that she would find me a good home.
So she took pictures of me and posted them with a story in
her coffee shop about what a good girl I am.
So
many people wanted me, including a man who wanted to put my picture
on the package of dog treats he produced and sold.
But Sharon knew which would be the very best home.
So she picked me up and took me down to the store to meet
Elizabeth, one of her employees, and Elizabeth’s mom, Teresa.
They of course fell in love with me because I am such a
beautiful, happy girl. They took me home on approval so Mr.
McGreevey would be convinced that I should come live with them.
My charm overwhelmed him also, of course, and Elizabeth
called to say yes, I could live with them.
Sharon
took me back to say good-bye to Bob.
It was hard because I knew Bob loved me very much but he just
felt he could not keep me anymore.
When Sharon picked me up a few days later to go live with the
McGreeveys, Bob brought out the bright pink collar that he thought
was my best color because it matched my pink tongue.
Then he gave me kisses, told me to be a good girl, and I
watched him wipe a tear from his eye.
Then
I went home to live with Elizabeth and her mom and dad.
That was eight months ago and I am a very happy girl at the
McGreevey household. They
call me “Lady Di” because I have such great character.
I get to go for lots of walks and rides, chase gophers and
squirrels in the back yard, and of course, have lots of extra
treats. One day I “borrowed” a roast from the kitchen counter,
which was really special!! And
I have been known to take a banana, peel back the skin and eat just
the banana.
I
was a bit sad when Elizabeth moved out of our home to live with two
of her girlfriends, but she comes to visit me often and still takes
me to be groomed. Some
of her friends put a red kerchief around my ears when we were out
romping that made me very cute!
And I have a new friend, Lenny, who lives with one of
Elizabeth’s friends, Anne.
It
had been many months since I had seen Sonja Rae.
One day Elizabeth took me to the coffee shop after I had been
to be groomed, and Sharon and Sonja stopped by.
Sonja leapt out of the car because she was so happy to see
me, and of course, immediately pushed her long nose into my
beautifully groomed coat. I
did not snarl my lips this time because my teeth do not hurt anymore
and I have a very happy home. We
chased each other around the cars in the parking lot a bit and then
Elizabeth and Sharon put us back into our respective cars.
We continued to “dog talk” a bit through the open
windows. It was so nice
to see Sonja again.
I
am a very lucky girl to have found a second home with people who
love me so much. And
now Sharon and two of her friends, Sandy and Susan, are working very
hard with their new group, Pets for Life, to help other pets find
good homes. It is a
good thing they are doing and all of my dog and cat friends say
“Thank You”.
Love
& Kisses,
Diamond
