“My
story has taken a long time to develop because it has been quite a
journey before I have finally found my new home”
As
you can see, I am a very beautiful husky mix with robin blue eyes
and white stockings on my feet. My tale begins which I was
picked up as a stray and taken to the Sioux Falls Humane Society.
No one claimed me and I was there a very long time before someone
finally adopted me. This new family said I did not get along
with their other dog so they brought me right back to the shelter.
The
Pet Pals For Life organizers and one of their supporters, Mary, felt
I deserved another chance so they found someone else to adopt me.
Again there was a concern about my ability to get along with the dog
in this home, so Sharon found me a foster home with Bobbi Lindquist
and her husband who have two Lab dogs. Bobbi said I could stay
with them until a permanent home could be found. A policeman
came out and looked at me because I am the kind of special services
dog they look for. He said a contact would be made to test me
for the program.
Then
everything changed again. Bobbi's 5-year-old lab Tommy, whom
she had taken in as a puppy, needed emergency surgery. It was
going to be too stressful for Bobbi to care for her Tommy and me, so
Sharon called Sylvia and asked if I could stay at her boarding
kennel until another home could be found.
Pet
Pals decided to have me spayed so I would be ready for a new family
and not worry about puppies. They also decided a good family
would be better than a special service dog because I am so
affectionate and loving. Posters were placed in their pet
books and on the Adopt A Pet center at Heart of the Vine Coffee
& Tea Co.
There
were many inquiries, but no one made the decision to come see how
beautiful and loving I was. The decision was made to transport
me to Noah's Bark in Canton, MN, a very special rescue center.
It
was a tearful day when I left Sioux Falls. Susan had taken me
to stay at her house the night before where I slept by her bed.
In the morning I made the rounds and gave everyone in her family a
kiss. Then Susan took me to Sharon at the coffee shop.
Sharon drove me to Brandon where Sue Battista picked me up and
drove me to Albert Lea. Julie from Noah's Bark met her there
and off I went to the rescue shelter.
Perry,
from the American Eskimo Rescue Shelter in Des Moines, IA where
Missy lives, put my picture on his website. There were a lot
of inquiries, and today, Pet Pals For Life got the happy news.
A wonderful family has adopted me!!
My
journey has finally ended happily, thanks to Pet Pals For Life,
Sylvia, Sue, Perry and Julie. I am so fortunate to have so
many humans who care so much.
Love,
Lacey
