Pets Adopted From Pet Pals For Life Will Be Spayed Or Neutered

MR. REX

I am Mr. Rex, Tanner’s brother.  It has taken a long time for me to find my forever happy home, but as you can see, I am finally there.  Sharon and Miss Sonja Rae have given me lots of love and a chance to be part of their life.

Tanner and I lived with 10 other dogs.  We were not fed most of the time and had never lived in a house.  We were taken to the Humane Society along with two of our other siblings who got adopted.  Sharon and her friends from Pet Pals For Life took Tanner and I out of the Humane Society when a lady called and said our ‘time was running out’.  We then lived at Happy Dog Boarding Kennel with Gerry and Annie for another month.

Pet Pals For Life put many ads around town about us.  A nice family saw them and came up to Happy Dog.  They could only take one of us and they chose Tanner.  After Tanner left I was very sad because I had been in a kennel for so long and now was alone.  Gerry is a very nice man but I really needed a good home.  Sharon then adopted me from the shelter and Mary Sheffield, one of her group members, said she would foster me until a good home could be found.  So I went to live with Hershey and Mary’s 3 other dogs.

One day after being groomed, Susan, another one of Sharon’s group friends, took me to Once Upon A Child where Mary works.  A lady named Tracey came running across the room because I reminded her so much of a dog she had lost 2 years before.  She wanted to know if she could keep me so the decision was made to go live with her and Dr. Williams, who just happens to be Sonja’s vet.  I was very happy with Tracey because she liked me so much, but it just didn’t work out because I was a little ‘too protective’.  So Tracey brought me back to Mary’s house.

Sharon decided to take me home to live with her and Sonja because she knew I was really a good boy and just needed a chance.  Of course, I could have told her that when she first came and picked me up at the shelter to take me for shots before going to Happy Dog.  In the vet’s office I had given her my best loves with my beautiful brown eyes.

The first days were a bit of a challenge because I had never had my own yard before, so of course I was a bit too protective.  Sonja is now teaching me not to be so afraid.  But I was  good from the beginning in the house, perfectly housetrained even though I had always lived outside. I don’t chew on anything, but I do have one habit that is a bit annoying.  I carry Sharon’s things everywhere – shoes, pants, even her bra which I was ‘sporting’ in the backyard.   One day she had to look everywhere for her tennis shoe which I had neatly buried in the mulch around the bushes.  But it’s only because I love her so much because she has given me such a wonderful home.

Now I take walks with Sonja and Sharon, play with Sonja and Eleesha, Sonja’s dog friend from next door, and go for rides.  We went on a nice vacation this summer and I was very good in the motel room because Sonja is teaching me how to behave.

And guess what?  Tanner is living with his family just 10 blocks from my house.  I have not seen him yet but Sharon did stop and tell him ‘hello’.  His family is very happy with him, too.  Tanner lives with Mr. And Mr. Stommes, their four children, 2 frogs, 2 hamsters and a beautiful cat.  We’re going to go for a walk together soon.

My story has ended very happily because Sharon and Sonja have given me such a wonderful home.  But there are so many pets that are not as fortunate because people don’t want them.  So Pet Pals For Life is working very hard to find homes for unwanted pets that end up in shelters and rescue centers.  They have wonderful books around town that tell stories of pets they’ve helped find homes.  Their group is also working with a national coalition to convince people to spay and neuter their pets to prevent litters of unwanted puppies and kittens.  Sharon, Sonja, Pet Pals For Life and I encourage you to help with this effort.

I, as you can see, am a very Happy Boy!!!!

P.S.  I still carry Sharon’s shoes and personal belongings everywhere.  But she is understanding and knows it’s just because I love her so much.

Love & Kisses, Rex
