My
name is Tanner and I want to tell you a most wonderful story.
Our
owner had twelve dogs and brought my brother Rex and me to the
humane society. Most of
the time we had been neglected and did not have much food.
After being at the shelter for three weeks, a nice lady who
works at the shelter called Pets for Life and indicated it did not
look like we were going to get adopted and that our time was running
out because they were short on space.
Susan
called Sharon and they decided to ask the owners of Happy Dog
Boarding Kennels if we could live there until homes could be found.
Jerry and Annie said ‘Yes’, so Sharon and Elizabeth
picked Rex and me up and took us to Dr. Williams so we could have
updated shots before going to the kennel.
We were so happy to see each other since we had been in
separate cages at the shelter.
I nuzzled Rex and he nuzzled me back.
Rex and I were not used to cars, so Elizabeth and Sharon had
to lift us into their vehicles.
We
are very quiet dogs who do not bark and Sharon and Elizabeth were
impressed by how quietly we sat on the seat while traveling to the
vet’s office. When we arrived, Dr. Williams was so kind and we behaved very
well while he examined us and gave us our shots. Rex rested his head on Sharon’s lap and she immediately
fell in love with his beautiful eyes that remind her of her dog Miss
Sonja Rae. Elizabeth
was quite taken with me so I gave her lots of loves and kisses.
Then
we went for a longer ride to Happy Dog Kennels.
Jerry met us and placed us in the same kennel so we could be
together. He sat down
and fluffed our ears and we knew he was a kind man.
Jerry showed us how to go in and out of the doggie door and
told Sharon we would be able to play in the exercise area during the
day.
Then
came the tough part. Pets
for Life had to find us homes.
After
being at the kennel for two weeks, Sharon, Sandy and Susan decided
we should be neutered which would help the adoption process.
Also, since we have always been outside dogs, it might help
with ‘housetraining’ if we end up being inside dogs. So Sharon and Elizabeth came and picked us up and took us to
another vet, Dr. Sommers, to be neutered.
After
our surgery, Susan and Sharon came and picked us up and took us back
to the kennel. Sharon
took new pictures of us, which turned how quite nice because we are
such handsome boys. She printed the pictures on posters along with our story and
posted them in pet stores and businesses.
Susan also put an ad in our local newspaper. NOW FOR THE WONDERFUL PART!
A
very nice lady who has four kids, a fenced in yard and a kennel came
to see us. She decided
to adopt me, so the next day she went to the humane society and
filled out the proper papers. Then
she came and picked me up to go to my new home.
That is the only sad part of my story.
I had to say goodbye to Rex.
Pets for Life had hoped we could go to a new home together,
but that was not to be. So Rex is still at Happy Dog Kennels waiting for his new
home. But I know
Sharon, Sandy and Susan will find a good home for him, too, because
they care so much.
I
am so happy in my new home, and there is one more part of my story
that must be fate. The
day I was adopted Sharon had kept her wishing star close to her
heart. And today, my
new owner went to Dr. Sommer’s office to have one of her other
pets treated and she saw the picture Sharon had placed on the
counter when we were neutered.
She joyfully exclaimed.
“That’s my dog. I just adopted him!” Dr.
Sommers and his assistant Mary laughed.
What a surprise. My
new owner is already a client of Dr. Sommers.
Sharon’s wishing stone must really be powerful.
I
am hoping that by the time you read my story Rex will have a new
home. He is also a beautiful boy and deserves the love and
attention I’m receiving. I
do know Sharon will be writing a story about him soon, because Pets
for Life is a caring organization for animals that need help finding
homes.
Love
& Kisses,
Tanner
