TEDDY BEAR

My
name is "Teddy Bear". You may remember me as
"Bear". I was at the Sioux Falls Humane Society for
a very long time. The lady who brought me there said I barked
a lot and she really didn't care what happened to me. I was
very dirty and scruffy and probably not very appealing to all the
people looking for a new dog. Pet Pals For Life organizers
felt sorry for me so they took me to Sylvia for grooming so I would
be more adoptable.
Susan
from Pet Pals For Life had really taken a liking to me and stopped
by to say "Hello" several times during my stay at the
shelter. One day a nice lady from the shelter called Susan and
told her Tanner, Rex and my time to remain at the shelter was
'running out' because they were so crowded. That didn't sound
very good so Susan, Sandy and Sharon decided to help us out.
Susan
took me home to foster and Pet Pals For Life made arrangements to
board Tanner and Rex at Happy Dog Kennels. I was so charming
and lovable that Susan decided to adopt me. She took me to Dr.
Sommers for neutering and a hernia repair. Dr. Sommers also
discovered 3 bee -bee shots imbedded in my skin. I certainly
felt better when he removed those!! I also had a bad tapeworm
that made me very skinny. Susan got special medication to make
the nasty thing go away.
It
was wonderful living with Susan, Mark, their two boys and their
beautiful cats, Samantha and Murray. I got to go everywhere
with Susan in the van and Mark took me for walks in the
morning. There was only one problem. I had been ignored
for most of my 4 years so of course I wanted to be everywhere Susan
was - even in the bedroom where I was somewhat restless, jumping up
and off the bed. That wasn't good. Also, Susan's two
boys have allergies and started having reactions to pets in the
house.
So
a very emotional and difficult decision had to be made. Susan
would have to find me a new home. Sharon took beautiful
pictures of me and posted them in her coffee shop and in the Pet
Pals For Life pet books. Susan put ads in the paper and took
flyers to pet shops and grooming salons. And you know
what? A miracle happened.
Enter
Jack and Shirley Harris, the most wonderful retired couple any dog
could meet. And the irony of it is, they already knew all
about me. You see, they had been up to the Humane Society to
see me before Susan took me home. When they went back to adopt
me, I was already gone. Shirley saw the ad in the paper and
just knew it had to be the same dog. So she called Susan, a
meeting was set up, and one evening Jack and Shirley came over to
Susan's house. I loved them right away - and they loved me
back because I reminded them of Tony, the dog they had recently
lost.
So
I finally have a forever, wonderful home. Jack and Shirley
have become active members of Pet Pals For Life and I get to see
Susan, Sharon and Sandy often. I go everywhere with Jack and
Shirley. Shirley says 'I drive the car'. Jack takes me
for walks everyday in McKennan Park where I try to catch all the
squirrels. Recently I got to go over to Susan's house and
visit Mark. He was very glad to see how handsome I had become.
I gave him a special kiss.
It
was very sad for Susan when she had to give me up because she loved
me so much. But now she gets to share me with Jack and Shirley
and still be part of my life. Right now Jack and Shirley are
helping Pet Pals For Life find a home for a beautiful diabetic cat
named Valentino who needs a 'special care home'. I also have a
new playmate, a tiny black teacup poodle that Jack and Shirley's
daughter adopted. Susan found it advertised in the
newspaper.
I
love my family and Pet Pals For Life because they knew what a
wonderful boy I was and helped me find a new life. Thank you
so much!!
Love
& Kisses,
Teddy
Bear
P.S.
Jack and Shirley changed my name from 'Bear' to 'Teddy Bear' because
I am so loveable and wooly.
